Relief Aid for Japan

At the beginning of July I was approached by my manager advising we were going to assist Human-Plus on their project “Relief Aid for Japan” with a 5 tonne shipment of relief supplies via airfreight and another 50 tonnes of supplies via ship.
An account was created and we were ready for the shipper’s “go” once his donations were ready for pick-up. Upon short notice FedEx was able to double the granted weight to 10 tonnes, making the logistical part of this operation more difficult.
I was the sole operational point of contact between this customer and our communications department. It was a great honor and challenge because I had to arrange correct paperwork for export, a direct pick-up for 17 pallets, monitor delivery to the airport, arrange the bypass/thru pallet straight to the destination and arrange for the handover at Narita airport in Japan.
By closely monitoring the shipment we were able to advise the customer within an hour of the delivery of these needed donations. Both the shipper and the recipient whom I spoke with were full of gratitude for the help and support FedEx gave them to move these humanitarian goods. Being part of this project makes me feel proud to work for FedEx. My name is Mark and I am FedEx.
