This submission describes a military dependent's choice of employment and the added benefits received from choosing to work at FedEx in The Matrix, Indianapolis HUB

I never thought of FedEx as being a family, but have found that they are indeed! My FedEx home and family hail from Indianapolis, Indiana HUB, Matrix North and South Teams.
In my personal life, I’m a military dependent wife and mother of a 17-year-old son, two married daughters and grandmother to two boys. Upon my spouse’s deployment to the Middle East in 2008, I found a good deal of free time on my hands so I began researching “prime” companies to work for and applied to only two out of approximately 50 that I’d consider working for. I was on schedule to train with “the other” company but once I got the call from FedEx, I grabbed onto it just to see if all the stories I’d heard were true. They were - and so much more.
Here is my story. I began working at FedEx two short years ago. In the beginning the boots were the hardest thing for me to get used to - (I wonder how many can relate to that?) - but perseverance is my motto. From the time I began up to this point, my life and health issues have taken a dramatic turn.
I’ve lost over 90 pounds and have dropped over 6 sizes in clothing (love the way my slimmer wardrobe fits!!). So I was overweight. I’m not now.

I was a diabetic (type 2). I’m not now. I was a heart disease patient with a 99% blockage in my ventricle. I’m not now.
I was a high blood pressure patient. I’m not now. My cholesterol level was high (315). It’s not now. I’ve been able to decrease to 3 daily medications versus the 8 pills I used to have to take and am looking at losing another 1-2 pills within the next 3 months. My doctors are impressed!

It is because of FedEx that I was able to conquer these high-risk health issues by absorbing all the additional exercise FedEx made possible to me. All the pushing, pulling and inducting of thousands of pieces of freight daily have made my muscles respond rather quickly as well as melt the excess weight off of me.

My bonus was gaining an “extended” family from my managers, supervisors, team leads through team members at FedEx. I’ve worked for several different companies throughout my career, being that military families are continually on the move, so I feel obligated to let you know how truly great FedEx is. Never have I felt a sense of “belonging” within any other company. It’s a privilege to work for FedEx. They really do care about the people that work for them!

This was all possible BECAUSE I am FedEx! Thank you, FedEx!
